Dr. Brian Healy publishes high-impact study regarding blast-related brain injury in active-duty US Special Operation Forces in PNAS

Dr. Brian Healy, PhD, Associate Investigator in Biostatistics at MGH and Associate Professor of Neurology at HMS, was the lead statistician for a paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) titled “Impact of Repeated Blast Exposure on Active-Duty United States Special Operations Forces”, which was published on April 22, 2024. The study authors found that higher blast exposure was associated with structural, functional, and neuroimmune brain alterations and lower health-related quality of life. The analysis leveraged complex structural MRI, functional MRI, and translocator protein PET data to study the effects of blast exposures on the rostral anterior cingulate cortex (rACC).
